PU Stone Walls in the UAE: Changing the Lighting
A stone-look feature wall can appear different after a failed lamp is replaced or a showroom lighting scheme is refreshed. That does not automatically mean the panels have changed colour. For a UAE facilities or retail team, the useful first step is to compare the old and new lighting conditions before ordering replacement cladding or attempting a surface treatment. The purchase record should make that comparison possible.

Document the original lighting and finish, compare the replacement light on a small area and investigate the cause of the changed appearance. Do not diagnose product deterioration from a photograph taken under different lamps.
Recover the original reference conditions
Find the accepted finish sample, installation photographs and lighting information if they exist. Record the lamp or luminaire model and the position from which the wall was originally viewed. If these records are missing, say so rather than constructing a false baseline. A UAE showroom may have changed displays, nearby colours and daylight shading as well as lamps. Separate those changes before comparing images. The aim is to establish what can reasonably be checked, not to prove in advance that either the lighting contractor or the panel supplier is responsible for the perceived difference.
Compare one replacement before changing the whole wall
Ask the lighting professional to review the proposed replacement for the intended fitting and location. Colour appearance, beam distribution and positioning can affect the way relief and joints are seen. Compare a representative section with the surrounding materials under controlled conditions and record the selected lamp information. Do not use a phone screen as the sole approval tool because exposure and white balance vary. This is an appearance review, not evidence that the PU panel meets a heat or fire requirement. Product suitability and required clearances remain matters for the actual manufacturer information and project design.
Inspect the surface without improvising treatment
If a difference remains after the lighting comparison, inspect the wall for dust, staining, damage or other observable changes. Follow the approved cleaning instructions and obtain advice before applying solvents, coatings or touch-up products. Do not repaint a textured panel simply to match a photograph; that can change the surface and complicate later assessment. Where moisture is suspected, EPA building guidance supports investigating the source rather than merely concealing its effects. The reference does not establish that the panel is waterproof or that moisture caused the particular appearance change. Keep observations separate from conclusions.
Update the maintenance record after the decision
Once the lighting choice and any justified remedial work are agreed, retain the new reference photographs and product identities. Record the viewing conditions so a later lamp replacement can be compared meaningfully. If new panels are needed, confirm the current finish and review a sample beside the existing wall; do not assume an older batch can be matched invisibly. The facilities team should know which supplier to contact for panel questions and which contractor handles the lighting. A concise handover note prevents a routine lamp change from becoming an unnecessary full-wall replacement order.
Before you request a quotation
- Recover the original finish and lighting references.
- Compare one proposed lamp before replacing the whole installation.
- Separate observed surface changes from suspected causes.
- Record the accepted new lighting and any approved treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Does a different-looking wall prove the panel has faded?
No. Lighting, viewing conditions and surface condition should be investigated before reaching that conclusion.
Should the panel be repainted to match a phone photo?
Not without product-specific approval and a proper assessment; a phone image is not a reliable colour standard.
