WPC wall panels in the UAE: how to check recycled-content claims
A WPC wall-panel quotation may say “recycled” without explaining which part of the product the claim covers. For a UAE project with a sustainability brief, that gap can matter more than the headline percentage. Ask for evidence tied to the exact offered model before carrying a supplier’s marketing phrase into the project submission.
Request the claimed percentage, its measurement basis, the material categories included and the exact product covered. Distinguish a supplier declaration from independent validation. Check the issuing body’s record where available, and let the project consultant decide whether the evidence meets the actual brief. WPC is a product category, not proof of recycled content.
Define the claim before comparing percentages
UL Solutions explains recycled-content proportions by mass and distinguishes pre-consumer and post-consumer sources. Use those distinctions to ask precise questions, not to assign a category to an undocumented product. Is the quoted figure for the complete finished panel, the polymer input, the wood component or only the packaging? Are surface films, coatings and other components included? Two percentages cannot be compared responsibly if their denominators differ. Request a written explanation of the calculation scope alongside the product identifier.
Connect the document to the offered panel
Record the model, finish, manufacturing location where declared, document holder, issue date and any stated validity limits. If the supplier provides a third-party certificate, verify its number and product scope with the issuer rather than relying on a logo cropped into a brochure. Ask whether a different finish or production location falls within the same evidence. A certificate for a raw-material producer does not automatically establish the recycled content of the finished panel being offered for your Dubai or Abu Dhabi project.
Keep different environmental questions separate
Recycled content describes material inputs. Recyclability concerns a product’s possible recovery route after use; the two claims are not interchangeable. Nor does a recycled-content declaration alone establish indoor-emissions performance, fire suitability or project acceptance. Keep each required document in its own row of the submission checklist. For a UAE fit-out tender, ask the consultant to confirm the project’s evidence requirements and review route. Make approval conditions visible in the quotation
Compare an evidenced offer with another evidenced offer, rather than rewarding the largest unsupported number. If a requested document is missing, mark it pending instead of copying the claim into an approved specification. Agree what happens if the proposed model changes and who must review the replacement evidence before purchase. Keep the final claim wording, supporting documents and approved product identifier with the order.
