Build the denominator first
Calculate saleable square metres from the selected panel's effective coverage width and usable length, then convert the requested quantity to whole panels and cartons. A nominal-width quote can look cheaper while delivering less finished face area. Include expected cutting loss and any damaged or unsaleable units as separate assumptions rather than hiding them in the product price.
Keep currency, exchange-rate date, destination and tax treatment visible. This formula is a planning model, not a customs valuation or final tax calculation.
Compare like with like
Put every supplier quote on the same named destination and trade term before judging price. The ICC's Incoterms explanation sets out how obligations, risk and costs are allocated. The term does not replace the sales contract or determine the product's import duties. Obtain local customs and tax figures for the destination market.
A simple comparison example
Assume two offers each provide 1,000 panels. Offer A appears cheaper per panel but covers 0.48 m² after joining; Offer B covers 0.55 m². Before freight, that means 480 m² versus 550 m² of nominal connected face coverage. Add real carton counts, usable lengths, accessories and allowances before calculating cost per saleable m². These numbers illustrate the method and are not Luvie prices or specifications.
Request a quote that can be modelled
- Exact SKU, connected drawing, effective width, length and panels per carton.
- Unit price, currency, named Incoterm place and validity period.
- Carton and pallet dimensions, gross weight and loading plan.
- Matching trims, corners, clips or other required accessories.
- Estimated freight, insurance, port, clearance, duty, tax and inland delivery from your service providers.
- Assumptions for damage, cutting and replacement stock.
Compare landed cost alongside quality, evidence, stock continuity and sales support. A low price per panel is not a saving if the completed wall needs more cartons or cannot be replenished consistently.
Buyer FAQ
Is FOB price the landed cost?
No. Add the buyer's freight, insurance where applicable, import charges, local handling, accessories and realistic saleable coverage.
Should I compare price per panel or per square metre?
Use both, but make the decision on effective saleable coverage and total installed-system economics.
Can one landed-cost formula work in every country?
The structure can, but duties, taxes, fees and treatment differ by destination and product classification.
