Ask for the report, not a marketing adjective
“Fireproof,” “B1” and “fire rated” can refer to different systems and jurisdictions. Ask the supplier for the complete test report and any applicable classification document for the exact model. Match the manufacturer's name, material composition, thickness, surface treatment and product code to the sample and purchase order.
Read the specimen description and mounting conditions. A panel tested on one substrate with one fixing method may not represent a different wall assembly. If the report covers a family of products, confirm which variants and thicknesses are included.
Separate a test method from a classification
ISO 11925-2:2026 specifies a single-flame ignitability test. A test result records how the specimen behaved under that method. It is not, by itself, a complete fire classification or permission to install in every corridor, public building or country. The local designer, authority or importer must identify the required classification and evidence route.
Five checks before accepting a claim
- Is the product in the report the same SKU, thickness and finish being ordered?
- Which test method and edition were used?
- What substrate, air gap, joints and fixings were included?
- Is there a separate classification or declaration required for the target market?
- Who issued the report, when, and is the document complete and traceable?
For EU sales, the European Commission's construction-products guidance explains the role of performance declarations and technical documentation. Requirements depend on the product and applicable framework, so a generic “CE” statement should not replace a SKU-specific document review.
Tie evidence to the commercial order
Put the approved model code and relevant evidence identifier in the specification record. Recheck if the formulation, face film, backing, thickness or installation changes. This prevents a report for a sample from becoming an unsupported claim across the entire catalog.
Buyer FAQ
Is a wall panel fire test the same as fire resistance?
No. Reaction-to-fire and fire-resistance claims concern different questions and evidence routes. Confirm the requirement for the actual project.
Can one report cover every colour and thickness?
Only if its documented scope includes those variants. Match the ordered SKU to the report or classification scope.
Is a fire rating valid worldwide?
No. Applicable methods, classes and acceptance routes depend on the destination market and use.
