Gulf Hotel Wall Panels: Check Fire Evidence Before Approving the Finish

A decorative fluted panel may look right for a hotel lobby or corridor, but a rendering is not a fire-safety submittal. Gulf-region project buyers need to connect the selected SKU and installation assembly to the local authority’s requirements for the actual building and room. This article is a buyer document checklist, not a claim that Luvie has approval for a particular hotel or jurisdiction.

Short answer

Before a sample becomes an approved finish, ask the project fire consultant or authority which performance classification and test method apply. Then verify that the report covers the exact panel construction, thickness, face, mounting and proposed use—not merely a similar-looking product.

Begin with the room and approving authority

A lobby feature wall, guest room accent, escape corridor and exterior facade can fall under different requirements. The Dubai Municipality’s building-code page explains the role of the Dubai Building Code in setting minimum building requirements. It is a starting point for local review, not a shortcut to a universal Gulf-wide rule.

Ask the architect and fire consultant to identify the occupancy, room location, substrate and authority having jurisdiction. Do not send a supplier the vague question “Is this fireproof?”; ask for the classification and document format required for that actual location.

Match the report to the purchased panel

The wall-panel fire-report guide explains how to read the specimen, method and result. For a hotel submittal, also compare the sample label, quote and report line by line: core composition, nominal thickness, face layer, backing, trim and installation method. A test for one thickness or mount cannot automatically be transferred to another. A marketing phrase such as “Class A” or “B1” is incomplete without the method and tested construction.

Request the report from an identifiable laboratory, confirm the report number and date, and ask the consultant whether the method is acceptable locally. If a report or approval does not exist for the chosen SKU, pause the claim and select a product with an appropriate evidence path.

Interior finish is not the same as exterior cladding

Dubai Civil Defence publishes separate exterior cladding guidance that addresses systems and assemblies. That source should not be used to imply an indoor decorative panel is approved outdoors, or vice versa. If the design crosses from interior to facade, restart the specification with the responsible local team.

Similarly, a fire report does not settle moisture suitability, fixing strength, cleaning or accessibility. Each claim needs its own evidence for the intended use. Our standards and evidence guide maps these separate questions.

Build a submittal that can survive handover

A practical package includes the named SKU, full product data sheet, physical finish sample, test report, proposed fixing drawing, trims, cleaning guidance and carton label. Keep revision dates and an approval record. If the finish changes after the mock-up, ask whether the evidence remains applicable. Hotel operators need the same model information later to order replacements without accidentally mixing finishes or batches.

Use the PVC wall-panel catalog (PDF) only to shortlist patterns, then request the exact product documents. Review the hotel-corridor planning guide for lighting, corners and maintenance questions once the safety evidence route is clear.

Questions for the project team

  • Which local authority, building use and room classification govern the finish?
  • Which test method and classification does the fire consultant require?
  • Does the report identify the exact ordered SKU, face, core and thickness?
  • Was the specimen tested in a mounting arrangement relevant to the proposed installation?
  • Do trims, backing and adhesives alter the approved system?
  • How will approved samples and revisions be tracked through shipment and handover?

Common buyer questions

Is “fireproof PVC” a sufficient product claim?

No. Ask for the defined method, classification, specimen and report; then obtain local project approval.

Does a Dubai document approve all Gulf projects?

No. Each jurisdiction and project may have different requirements. The responsible local consultant must confirm the applicable route.

Can the catalog be part of the submittal?

Yes, as a visual reference, but it cannot replace an exact-SKU data sheet, test report or fixing detail.
