Routine cleaning starts with a spot test
Give customers instructions tied to the product code and finish, not a generic “wipe clean” promise. Remove loose dust with a soft cloth. For ordinary marks, test the supplier-approved cleaner on an inconspicuous area before treating the visible wall. Wipe gently, avoid flooding joints and dry the surface afterward where the installation guidance requires it.
High-gloss UV boards, printed PVC, embossed WPC and metallic trim may respond differently to abrasion and chemicals. Avoid abrasive pads, scraping tools and unknown solvents until compatibility is confirmed by the product supplier. Cleaning the face is only one part of maintenance.
Inspect joints and the wall condition
At corners, skirting, service penetrations and wet-room transitions, look for gaps, swelling of adjacent materials, persistent moisture or failed sealant. If water is entering behind the cladding, cleaning the visible face will not solve the problem. The US EPA's water-damage guidance discusses cleaning non-porous hard surfaces while treating moisture and damage according to material and exposure; it should not be read as approval for a particular decorative finish.
Write the aftercare sheet before shipment
- Exact panel and trim model codes with finish names.
- Approved routine cleaning method and products.
- Products, tools and temperatures to avoid, as specified by the supplier.
- Instructions for seams, corners and wet-area inspection.
- How to report damage and identify a replacement batch.
For commercial projects, hand the installer and operator the same version. Photograph the completed mock-up and label stored spare panels. This makes a later maintenance question answerable without guessing which finish was installed.
What buyers should test on a sample
Ask for an approved physical sample and try the proposed routine cleaner on the actual face and trim. Check the surface after it dries under the room lighting. Record any change in gloss, colour, texture or joint appearance. A practical sample test gives the sales team honest guidance and lowers after-sales disputes.
